Long story short, went to look at some older Yorkies near my job site in Houston TX this morning which are alot less expensive than the Yorkies back home in L.A. The breeder said an 8 month old male who weighs 3 1/2 lbs would not grow anymore. He said because he is so small, his sperm is worth alot of money, so if I took him it would need to be on a "pet share" basis as he would want to sell his sperm. The dog would be going to my mother in another state but this didn't matter to him as he said the sperm would be transported via Fed Ex overnight on dry ice. (I didn't ask how the sperm is obtained as it was all a bit overwhelming.) IN ORDER TO NOT have the "dog share" arrangement, the dog would cost an extra 1900.00 over the already 2,000.00 asking price. Right about then, the breeder swooped the pup off the floor to take something out of his mouth (it looked like a small piece of duct tape). I noticed the dogs bottom teeth looked strange. I mentioned this, and the breeder said that all small Yorkies have 2 sets of teeth and that because of their small intestines they need to chew their food more thoroughly so "the good Lord gave them double the teeth of bigger Yorkies." He proudly showed me the dogs entire double rows of teeth. (The dog didn't just have 1 or 2 duplicate teeth, it had two entire upper rows and 2 bottom rows.) Is this breeder full of it? He only had 4 dogs and they were well groomed and were in his home, which was very neat. The pup has already learned to sit and shake, so the breeder had invested time with him. Thanks for your responses, I'm not sure if I'm just a cynical guy from SoCal if this guy was full of it.
Nooooooooooo Runnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn Away this man is full of crap...

All dogs have baby teeth and adult teeth like humans except in Yorkies they usually have to be pulled (they don't fall out on their own) or the poor little dog will have tons of bacteria and rotten teeth. Eventually it could poison the dogs whole system and they can die. Also your mom wants a pet not a breeding dog even if they are AIing the dog at the vets but I would never do this unless I was breeding. Just because someone has a nice home and the dogs look groomed does not mean someone understands how to properly care for these little ones.

YOu really need to contact the YTCA and get recommendations from them. I will say I am totally opposed to you finding the dog for your mom. I understand what you are trying to do but it is so very important the bonding happens between them and that hey are not treated as merchandise. Having a puppy will take a lot of work and Yorkies are one of the hardest dogs to housetrain...How old is your mother? Is she willing to have her rugs and carpet ruined? In rescue we would only adopt to the person who is going to have the dogs so we know the best match is being done.
