I have never found them needed..my pups do not want to get away from mom...and mine have never been ones to lay on puppies...I use a thinner bedding pad and if mom lays on one, they move very fast..they can feel them..and puppies yell. Most active, healthy puppies are ablr to crawl from under mom's leg or shoulder..BUT they might make some breeders feel safer...
Personally, I think the type bedding in the box you use is the biggest culpit. I know several breeders who use carpet squares so the pups can get good traction...I used it with a mom who kept balling the pads up and tryiong to bury her litter..stopped that asap with a carpet sq. I removed it at 3 weeks before they started peeing on it... |
