Funny you mention this....

My nephew, age 23 and his roommate, age 21, went to a kill shelter wanting to rescue a dog. They were thinking about getting a pitbull and walked out with a 2 y/o chihuahua! They did such a great job choosing the sweetest dog. I'm so proud of them!

Today I spent 3 hours with my nephew. He wanted to learn the proper way to introduce his dog and said he wanted our Guinness to be his first. He had so many questions- nutrition, treats, insurance, grooming, bugeting and starting a saving account for the dog, training, supplies etc., it just came rolling out of his mouth nonstop.

I'm meeting him this weekend. On Saturday, he wants to check out our dog training club. On Sunday, we're shopping for supplies which includes better dog food.

I can't begin to tell you how this experience has touched me. My nephew will not have a problem admitting he can be somewhat self centered, loud and obnoxious, but there he was, all 220 lbs. of him- gentle, tender and loving towards this little dog. The last thing he said/asked before he left... I want to be a good dog owner, do you think I can be one?
