The vet should have looked at him. He could have a broken bone somewhere in his leg or foot.

The only thing I can suggest for you or others who may be in the same predicament:

When the tech asks you if youi gave it some time: you reply: Yes, I've been watching him limp around for a half hour. He is weightbearing/nonweightbearing on X leg. And he's in pain.

When they say they could give you an appointment at 3:40pm: You reply: Don't you see emergencies here? That is why I specifically came to you. He needs to be examined by the vet.

If that doesn't get you in: Go to a different vet.

Hope he makes out allright.
