I think it may be the alligator clip. I had used them on Jack when I was growing his hair out and on the very top of his head, where the clip had been, all of his hair was ripped out in a perfect little circle. I believe he didn't like the clip in there (or maybe was allergic to something in the plastic that clip was made out of). His hair has grown back in, but it was the weirdest looking thing and my vet didn't seem too concerned with it because it didn't get infected and it wasn't even raised. Just a perfect little circle of no hair and a little pink scalp. I hope she gets better soon. I can imagine how terrible you feel. Don't beat yourself up, this is how we learn.
