He is still very timid. I have him gated into the kitchen and family room and I set up a crate for him. He seems to feel safe in it and spends the majority of his time there. As soon as we leave the area he comes out though! And he got up in the middle of the night to eat and drink (thank god, I was so worried).
He shakes every time I talk to him.
I guess I am just really worried he wont come around and he wont be happy here.

Have you tried sitting in front of the gate and talking to him from there? Even if he shakes, keep talking to him. Keep your town of voice very sweet and calm. Don't baby talk, just talk to him normally. After a while he'll get use to the sound of your voice and the shaking will stop. Keep at it and you'll win him over.
