No respectable, responsible breeder would EVER give their puppy to any kind of pet store. So in my opinion, you should
never buy from a pet store because you would be supporting bad breeding practices (of course, loads of people make the mistake of buying their 1st pup from a store, I'm talking about us who are aware). Also, alot of times that is a sales pitch... "Oh, we get all our puppies from local breeders" and then if you trace back your puppies papers, you find out it was truly a puppymill. If you can find Animal Planet Investigates: Petland on TV, or online, watch it.
It will open your eyes even more.
