I would be very concerned for the momma too. Something does not sound right. She should be eating like a horse. Have you taken her temperature today? Are you sure the pup was smothered? If the pup was already weak I can see how that could happen if the pup was unable to cry out. I have pups get behind the momma lots of times but they don't get smothered. Are all the pups latching?
