I am concerned that the top part of his penis was out for the duration of the entire night the first morning (perhaps) before the vet tech put it back in.

How would I know if the penis required amputation per some threads regarding paraphimosis? My confusion si it is said paraphimosis can lead to amputation but the question that remains unanswered is why?? And is this only for full erections , or the small parts that still remain out on my neutered dog?
amputation is for extreme cases when the tip of the penis is out for prolonged periods of time and cannot go back in. happens alot with bulldogs.
