The Latest Carlo update as of 5/20/10 Well, we met with the Oncologist this morning. We discussed the MAST CELL TUMOR/SYSTEMIC MASTOCYCTOSIS, and he as a real bad case with the large mass in the intestine. He is sure it spread through other parts, and we started an agressive Chemo Therapy to see if we can help him. Without it, he said he as 2-3 more months. With it, a 50-50 chance he can have good quality for over a year.
He received his first treatment today. Protocol calls for VINBLASTINE, along with Benedryl and Prednisone (Steroid). He gets one IV a week for 4 weeks, and then one every two weeks for the next 8 weeks, so he will get a total of 8 treatments. They will do a blood test prior to each treatment, and other tests as called for.
He is in great shape for his age, and strong. We just got home a little while ago, and already he wants to go for a walk. The Vet did say Carlo does not like being restrained. I asked how the Vet would like it....no reply. |
