He doesn't cry when he's in his big kennel, you can just tell he would rather be somewhere else. I am gone 11 hours a day with only my 18 year old to take him out and play occassionally, to put him in a small crate for 11 hours where he has to hold it and is only able to stand up and turn around in would be cruel. Gating him off in the dining room would give him more freedom without the confinement of the kennel where he can't run.
