I agree .. get him to the vet. If it is LP your vet will be able to diagnose that without an xray...same thing with a torn ligament. In the meantime try to keep him as quiet as possible. Definitely don't let him jump on and off of furniture.
Sometimes when they have LP it can pop out and give them some problems for a few days; but with anti inflammatories they often improve and nothing else needs to be done.
If you are not familiar with the anatomy of their legs, I would not suggest that you manipulate it at all. You might ask the vet how to check knees for future reference.
