When I got back in I tried one more time to massage his leg to see if I could correct the LP (if that is even what he has) but had no luck - I'm afraid to place anymore pressure on it in fear of causing him more pain.

Poor Mayson, he seems so sad
You need to take him to the vet. He doesn't need to be in that much pain. Your vet can prescribe an anti-inflammatory and pain medication. He can also diagnose the problem. Trying to manipulate his knee yourself may cause him more pain and further injury.
