My biggest tip for you is to go slow and remember HAIR GROWS BACK!
They might not look fabulous the first few times you groom them, but you'll learn as you go. I do Kaji's hair myself, and to make things easier I use electric clippers on his body and I do his ears and face with scissors. I guess you can call it a puppy cut? I'm still learning though. I should be giving him a trim soon, but I'm loving his long mustache and his constant bed head. In other words, I'm LAZY!
