The surgery was done 8 years ago and never a problem. I actually thought she was like 9 mos old when she had it done but I called yesterday to find out the exact date and it was when she was 2. It's been so long I had forgotten about all the details.
They think this was acute trauma that caused it but she never made a peep and we did not see anything. All I can think of is that she whacked it on a chair leg (metal) or on the tile floor when she was chasing Teddy for his cookie crumbs.
As for the xray - this was the first one. They did not do it on Sun night because she tolerated the exam so well that they were leaning toward soft tissue at the ER hospital and said to watch it and give tramadol and follow up in two days. So that is when my vet did not like the looks of it.
Meanwhile we thought she was improving - she is completely stoic - she has a very high pain tolerance. I feel so terrible for her and all I can do is medicate her until we see the ortho. I am waiting to hear when that is going to be. |
so when they said LP 4 her patella was permanently out no movement whatsoever on the patella? This is my understanding of patella 4 when vet did xray of dd on both back legs both were completely out and they cannot manipulate them at all in manual exam. This is why they said she is susceptible to injury of acl.
3 is when it keeps popping in and out i thought and they cry out in pain and you have to manipulate it back in place.
ask about groove not being deep enough as have read this tends to happen and why second surgery is needed. Was acl ruptured as well? I would think if trauma the acl would rupture as well
I am just so bummed you and her have to go through this again
when you said leg dragging i was concerned this was the case
as dd only lifted leg with acl injury
