i would think that the vet would have done a needle aspirate before the surgery to see if he could get any cells to evaluate. from the aspirate he might have been able to see if the lump was cancerous before he did the surgery. he did do that before removing it as he knew it was cancer before removing and removed it then it came back a second time. She never said he recommended removing the limb though
