If you want the warm weather you need to stick to southern cali as northern is cooler and more rainy than southern.
San Diego is a college town due to UCSD and San Diego State so jobs are harder to come by there due to all the people graduating from college wanting to stay and live there as it is so nice.
The closer to the beach the more expensive usually so are you looking for a beach atmosphere
Are you single as that makes a big difference too as some areas like Marina Del Rey, Hermosa Beach, Santa Monica are more fun if you are single as there is alot to do there and places to go out

Southern Cali is the way to go for warm weather year round. Unemployment here is brutal. I've been unemployed for a while, and all I can find is temp jobs but it's not enough to live off of.
