I live in downtown LA, but in a not such a good part of town. They are completely renovating downtown (like near Staples center) to make it as fancy as Times Square (or so they say). It's crazy expensive to live down there though. There are very lovely places that you can live in like Torrance, Irvine (I love Irvine), Glendale, and on. It just depends what you look for in a neighborhood.
