Dogs do recognize their owners, even years later. My uncle raised greyhounds for racing. He sold one of the pups to someone in England that wanted him for racing. Something happened about two years later. I think the dog was injured and wouldn't be able to race anymore. The owners no longer wanted him and were going to put him down.

My uncle decided to buy him back. When the dog got off the plane and saw my uncle, he went NUTS! After two years, that dog still remembered and loved my uncle.

But aside from that this lady is crazy. I agree with the others, take it to the vet (at her expense.) Even if the vet responds that it's a recent scar, that doesn't necessarily mean anything. I'd put definite restrictions on this woman as far as calling you or coming to your house. I'd documet every phone call and the gist of the conversation and I'd print out each email and keep them in a binder.

Good luck. I'm sure the dog will have a wonderful life with you. (Did I miss what his name is?) And how big is he? So exciting (except for the crazy lady.
