What a good question and I wish I knew for certain the answer. If I am gone more than an hour or so, my dogs are more excited when I return, than if I'm gone just 10-15 minutes. When we are away overnight or vacationing, we take them with us, so I don't have extended lengths of time being away from them to know if they would react differently.
