The general rule of thumb is to double the weight at three months, so your breeder is probably right about his adult size being between 3-4 pounds.

While neutering early can prevent lots of undesirable male behavior like marking, most vets prefer to wait until they are about three pounds to spay or neuter. Hopefully he'll make that weight by the time he is six months old.
