Update! Just got back from taking Spike to the vet. He seemed a lot better when I picked him up that he did this morning, so that was definitely encouraging. He still seemed a bit sluggish, so I took him to the vet as planned, even though he was much improved.
Dr. Howard could really only find two things. His temperature is a little high (although still in the "normal range"), and when she palpated his abdomen, he flinched a little. She also said it felt quite tense, although she wasn't sure if that was because his stomach was upset or if he was just nervous about her handling him.
She gave him a injection of some medicine for any pain, and gave me some medicine that should help with the diarrhea. She also told me to feed him some bland food like rice, and see how he does with that. If he continues to improve then that will be that, but if he still seems to be having problems, she recommended bringing him back for an x-ray and perhaps some blood work.
So far, all seems well, and we'll keep an eye on him!
