Callie has a dog carseat and it has a strap that hooks to her harness and at first she would try to climb out but I would say no and put her back in and she got the hang of it. Now if I open the car door she jumps in the car and goes over to her carseat and jumps in. She loves watching the cars and things but she eventually lays down and sleeps. You should always have them buckled in some how because just like humans they can get really hurt in an accident.
