Another thought -- how old is your boy? My boys both had growth spurts at 10 months of age. They each gained a pound in their last growth cycles. (they grew in height too)
Does your pup look or feel overweight? Don't judge only by the scale.
Our vet told us to cut back food at 8 months, but my boys still needed the same amount. My boys are very active, so that could be part of it.
