I would say yes it would. He's only guarding what he believes to be his.
It's a dog thing. You stated your in agility class, ask a trainer how to help.
I corrected food aggression towards myself and my dog, however, he never
eat's around other dog's so I can't help you.

He's only acting normal for a dog but it can be corrected I'm sure.
