I keep a bed pillow by they couch and when I want them to settle down, they will--Hot Rod mostly, will jump up there and "make his bed" and crash. He will even bring his bully or toy lamb to gnaw on up there.
I get the cheapy pillows from Walmart or like $2.50 and have several around for this purpose. While I am sewing my kiss-e collars, Hot Rod is even asleep on one across my lap. I told hubby that I want him to snap a picture of it so I can post it.
