I second The Help. It is a very good book. I also agree that Shanghai Girls and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo are very good books. I can't say enough about The Hunger Games. If you want captivating that would be the one to start with IMHO. I just finished reading Roses and it was very good. I am now reading Caught and The Lotus Eaters.
