There are many issues going on with her. The growling and snapping are actually due to the GME. With GME there are personality and behavioral changes. The treatments she is getting and also the prednisone may slow the progression of GME, but to be honest this is a progressive disease. It would have been better had she been treated for the encephalitis back six months ago, but we cannot undo that and just need to pray that these treatments are going to help...that the disease has not gone too far to be slowed enough.
At this point we are doing our best to keep her comfortable and hoping that she can have some quality time. It is difficult sometimes to know how far to go with these pups. The fact that she is better is definitely promising. We just will need to closely watch her because we do not want her to suffer. Her foster mom and dad will be very attentive to her.
She is on prednisone and also pain meds. The wrap is helping to keep her spine stabilized since they cannot operate on her. So, honestly, we do not feel that she is in pain at this point. She can stand up and walk short distances without flopping over like she was and without screaming, so that is encouraging.
I am sorry that we did not get to her sooner; but even if we had, these are serious medical problems. We just have to take it a day at a time. At least for now, as Steve said, each day has been bringing some baby steps. |
