Over time the lining of the uterus can thicken. When that happens the flow is heaver. Sometimes this is no big deal, other times you need to have a cnd done. I believe thats the terms. I have a close friend that is in her late 30's and had several cnd's done over the years, (she was always a heavy bleeder) last year she started seeing a new Dr. due to lack of Ins. coverage, this new dr. preformed a new type of procedure on her where they insert a wire mesh type balloon inside the uterus and use a form of electric current. I SHOULD NOTE IF YOU PLAN ON HAVING KIDS AT SOME POINT DONT DO THIS. She has seen night and day difference. She even went several months with just spotting for a period.

I highly encourage you to see your ob to rule out any serious causes. I feel every woman should see there ob yearly and as needed for problems.
