I think you're right to change his food. An occasional toot is one thing, but if he's farting often and it smells then his tummy probably hurts some, too. It is usually the food that causes this.
Out of my six boys and one girl, it's Chelsea who reigns at tooting. I've had to get out of bed and leave the bedroom in the middle of the night while I wait for the smell to clear out.
