I agree, surgery is very risky as well. The lap band less so. It's not permanent and can be reversed. I think it's yes & no in that they change the way you eat. Gastric bypass, you are supposed to change the way you eat or you can become very ill or worse. Same with the lap band. Unfortunately it doesn't present problems for everyone the same way and many do continue to eat and gain back the weight and have severe complications.
I don't see how this is changing what you eat or the way you look at food either though? I don't mean while you are losing the weight, but afterwards and for the rest of your life?
Losing weight and keeping it off is about behavior modification & portion control, IMO.
