If the canned food isn't settling, you can soak kibble in water and give that (just make sure it's pure mush and don't leave it out for too long...throw leftovers away).
The periodontal disease vaccine is new and there are some issues with it. Please research before letting them even give anymore... My girl had nine adult teeth pulled and had periodontal disease, osteomyelitis... She was never given the shot and has done extremely well with homecare (OraVet included).
As long as she was getting fluids, it shouldn't be a huge deal if she isn't ready to drink. Are her gums sticky? Should be just fine...
