Have you had his heart checked? My IG was coughing, especially when excited. The vet did a chest xray and her heart was enlarged and she was diagnosed with congestive heart failure, but she actually has mitral valve prolapse and her right atrium is quite large. She goes to an internist now.
I hope you can find some relief for Bobby. It's distressing to see them uncomfortable.
