I don't think your T.J. is cranky, something is bothering him. Have you had your vet look him over? An xray to check his joints/hips, etc? We had a Brussels Griffon as a pup do exactly what your T.J. is doing. Come to find out he had major hip problems.

If your vet finds him healthy then it might be a training issue.
