I think some of you need to understand that just because you find a dog, it doesn't mean it's yours, you can give it to a shelter or rescue, but they don't adopt it out, until they make every effort to find the owner. It was very kind of mommaofmia to take the dog in, but "giving" it to a private person, is what some people think is wrong. I would just die if this happened to my Joey.
I hope the new guardian is making every effort to find the original owner. Granted many states don't have rescues, so it's okay for a private individual to keep the dog until a suitable foster mother is found. It's not clear how well mommaofmia knew the new foster mother, and that's what some people are upset about. I would recommend taking a found dog to a vet and scanning for a microchip before I placed the dog with anyone, even a foster home. The breeder should have some type of record where the dog went, and if this is an AKC breeder, the AKC often keeps records of microchip numbers. It just breaks my heart that this could be someone's loving pet, and people are thinking it was abused just because it looks ungroomed. I really hope every effort is being made to find the true owner. By the way, there are lots of online sites to list lost dogs, including the AKC. I hope this thread becomes more about finding the owner than placing blame on who did what and who said what. Mommaofmia did the best she could with the information she had, but now she has learned that there may have been a better way to have handled the situation, and I hope she and others will learn from this thread. |
