When was his last check up with vet? Now many ear problems /infections and such will either have a discharge and or the ear will have an odour that progressively gets worse if infection isn't treated.
Check his ears for wax buildup and or smell. Ears do need to be cleaned on Yorkies regularly. Weekly I do mine.
Symptoms persist see your Vet.
