Lizzie does this with her babies (stuffed toys). She will run around, sometimes whining and even go through the motions of digging and burying her baby. Food is too important to her to hide, plus the other dogs might get it.
Another thing she does is get the baby anytime she gets excited, and when I get home or other people come over, she will run around with the toy in her mouth for 30 minutes or more. Sometimes it gets buried, and other times she just drops it where ever.
