I would suggest putting the bell by the door you go out of. We did that, and every time we take her out, we make her ring the bell and we say "potty outside" Then we took her out. A little peanut butter helped get her familiar with ringing it. Now, we're able to have a bell upstairs as well, and she knows that ringing it will get her to go outside. It just took a few days of having only one bell right by the door, and LOT'S of heavy watching. The best schedule I can tell you is right when they wake up, 10-15 min after eating, right after playing, right after naps, and before bed. Ours has slept in the bed with us since we got her, she has never had an accident. But, then again all dogs are different!! If you have a lot of time to commit, it works easier than crating. We crated her when we left the house from the minute we got her. Now, she's gotten more trustworthy and can go an hour or two without using the potty inside. Good Luck!! If you have any more questions, I'll be glad to answer!
