The Sookie Stackhouse books by Charline Harris are great vampire books based in Louisiana. Sookie is a waitress at a bar who can read minds and it's all about her dealing with the vampires, werewolves, and other creatures.
They one of my favorite series of books to read. She has written 9 books in the series so far but a new one comes out on the 4.
She has a few other series of books out but the Sookie books are the best.
