This spill could be a real disaster but so far the effect on land has been minimal. I don't think that will be true in a few more days. The wind has been up out of the south and the seas are choppy so containment isn't working very well.

Our shrimp season opened early so that shrimpers could go out and get all they could while they could. There's been a run on the seafood markets. This couldn't have happened at a worse time. It's spawning season and there's so many young fish, birds, turtles and other wildlife that won't stand a chance.

There's been a lot of talk here about why there are no resources in place for just this kind of thing. With all the drilling in the Gulf and the risks to the environment, something like this was bound to happen.

Very sad in many ways.
