I agree with you, the owner of the Dalmacian did the right thing. Its the rescue home that is really to blame, if they let this dog be addopted and did not test it to see this kind of terrible aggression.
A similar thing happended to a neighbor of mine with a dachsund. It was attached by a German Sheppard that grabbed the little dog right out of her owner's arms.
One of our neighbors has a pair of these big German SHeppards, and has attached fence "extenders" to the fence around their property, I assume they were able to jump over the existing fence. Every time we walk by, these dogs go crazy and that sets off little Gatsby. It is frightening, even though I always carry my guys past this particular house.
