My Westie has skin allergies and seasonal allergies. Our pollen count here is really high. You don't want it to get out of control; because he ended up with a skin infection from scratching so much. Luckily, we caught that early. He ended up on antibiotics and steroids for the skin infection and overall itching. Our vet prescribed OTC allergy medicine like Zyrtec for really bad days. He has a special cortisone shampoo that I bathe him with to help his skin. It has worked wonders; I take it with him to the groomers even.

Mine was really miserable with it; I think your vet could help you with this fairly easily.

Good Luck!

PS: I wouldn't give any allergy medicine without consulting your vet first.
