Well, standard yorkies are not supposed to exceed 7lbs but the majority of this board does not have standard yorkies! My boy is 16lbs at 1.5 years old. He was 6lbs at 12 weeks old and stayed at around 12lbs for a looongg time until recently. He's not overweight at all; if anything he's fairly skinny. A good estimate of an adult weight is to double their 12 week old weight. It all boils down to genetics and breeding, etc. There's a lot of people NOT breeding to standard anymore (and personally I like the bigger guys!) plus with yorkies being the #2 registered dog, they are popular and overbred. They also used to be bigger as they descended from a lot of different larger terriers like the Skye Terrier so even small parents can sometimes produce large pups.
