We took a vacation with our pooches a little while back, we stayed at a friend's place but still didn't want to leave the dogs there alone all day - so our main activity was playing with the dogs at the doggy beach. We also went for walks/hikes and took in a drive in movie. We got most of our meals "to-go" and ate in parks. We had a blast.
