My little girl had a temperature that dropped below 98 twice last week (and not on the day she delivered either). I had her looked at by the vet one of those times and nothing was amiss. I think it was thermometer variation as my thermometer registers the temperature in 30 seconds ( or less sometimes). Now this might be too much information, but once the thermometer was quite poopy when I removed it and my vet told me that if the rectum is not clear of poop, that you might actually be taking the temperature of the poop which would obviously be a little cooler than the dog.
