My Teddi is 3 1/2 years old and for the first 2 1/2 years of her life she had a big sister (a Standard Poodle). I thought she would miss her but she seems to love being the only one. If I did get another dog I would definitely get a girl. Personally I don't like the boys lifting their legs. I will say that it is so much easier with 1 dog. I can take her everywhere and it's a lot easier to watch 1 than 2. I just had 2 others visiting for a week and 3 was definitely a handfull!!!
