Keep in mind, canines only mate for procreation purposes. There action is not based on desire. The do not have the same thought process as other mammals with higher thought process.
Think about it the only time a dog really seeks out a female dog when she is in Season. The reason is because the female emits a scent as an attraction to the male. This scent is only there when she is fertile and can concieve.
