yep tramadol is an opium based drug and it does cause rapid heart beat but sounds like it was a high dose to me as my girl yorkie did not have that and she was on tramadol but my maltese was on butorphenol after her extractions and she had those symptoms and i freaked called dentist and he said she will be fine it is what happens with opium drugs but he still felt it safer than nsaids and he would not prescribe any nsaid and he is a board certified dentist who use to run small animal hospital at ucdavis and very sharp
