I'm VERY lucky that my dad (along with stepmom, little brother, and their 2 dogs) take him when I need to go away. He LOVES it over there and never wants to leave. They've got a huge fenced in yard, he gets pampered and fed a lot of treats, lol. I've probably left him about 10-12 times since getting him in December '08 and every time except once he's stayed with them. The other time, he stayed home at the house we live at with my mom, stepdad and sister... but I don't really trust them as much (no fence, either) so it only happens when I'm desperate.
If I didn't have family available, I would definitely find someone able to come to my house. I'm a petsitter myself and really bond with all the dogs I watch... I treat them as my own and their owners all love and trust me. I currently just started watching an 8 week old Rottweiler and to make her feel more comfortable (I'm not bonded or insured, since it's kind of a side job type thing) I gave her a copy of my drivers license, a few references, went and met/interviewed with her, etc. |
