This weekend Cookie was on my mind. I came home to a sweet little miniature poodle on my car port. He was very friendly and came right to me.
I picked him up and inspected his collar. There were no tags, unfortunately.
As it was getting dark, I was sure that someone would be looking for him, so I put him in our play room and drove around the neighborhood looking for people who might be looking for a dog. I figured someone would be out with flashlights, frantically calling, like I was when Zacchie was "lost."
But I didn't see anyone looking for him.
I broadened my search.
Still nothing.
I went door to door.
Nothing.
At one neighbor's suggestion, I went home to make a sign to post in a nearby convenience store and began writing an ad for craigslist.
Just then, my daughter suggested that he looked a little like someone's dog she knew, but when she had last seen him, he wasn't groomed as neatly.
I called.
They were out of town, but said they'd check in with their house sitter.
The sitter had let him out, thinking that he wouldn't go anywhere, and he just disappeared.
Sure enough, I had their little Max.
And now Max is back home.
Wishing for Cookie to be brought back to his home, too.
